The last four years have brought about an exciting new initiative to improve access to veterinary care for under-served community members for their pets' needs. Currently, there are two types of animal wellness programs utilized by this underserved market. One is traditional low-cost preventative services such as spay, neuter, and vaccine clinics or through private veterinary hospitals at market pricing.
Teaming up with Pleasant Paw Pet Centers, we have designed a plan for a real community clinic in Connecticut, targeting needs-based pet owners who struggle to access veterinary care for financial and other reasons. The approach will be a collaborative one, together with public government agencies, private business and nonprofit organizations who work with those most in need, already receiving some form of social service.
Subsidized costs for quality care are available due to veterinary technician and assistant internship programs providing clinic operations support while providing hands-on experience for the vets of tomorrow. Sponsors and donations will help offset expenses.
Services will include prevention and sick care within a veterinary teaching environment. Our sustainable plan ensures balanced and continual services to disadvantaged community members and their four-legged family members.
Dr. Vali of Pleasant Paw Pet Centers is enthusiastic about offering a community clinic using his success as a vet to benefit the community. We anticipate the weekly community clinic will start in March.
